tolerance difference

I recently received an invitation from Mirko Ilić to participate in the Tolerance traveling poster exhibition — a powerful, pro bono global project that has been touring for over seven years, with 232 exhibitions in 52 countries, reaching more than 650,000 people worldwide. In response, I created my poster titled “Tolerance Difference.”

In a world scarred by human conflict, this poster imagines an alternative truth through nature’s quiet defiance. A crow and a dove-symbols long cast as opposites-choose love over instinctive division. Black and white, often used to represent hostility, fear, or moral extremes, are here united in a single nest. From that union, new life emerges: chicks born not of sameness, but of difference.

The nest itself is built from the debris of human violence-spent bullets, metal fragments, and remnants of destruction. It is a powerful contradiction: tools designed to end life are repurposed to protect it.

Behind them, the human world fades into a gray, broken skyline—distant, polluted, and emotionally numb. It is a world raging with conflict, where people kill one another over race, belief, identity, and ideology, unable—or unwilling—to accept difference. In contrast, the crow and the dove exist in the foreground as a moral mirror, silently questioning human behavior. If creatures we label as opposites can coexist, love, and create life, why can’t we?

The chicks represent hope: a future unburdened by inherited hate. They do not see black or white, crow or dove—only care, protection, and belonging.

The title Tolerance Difference stands as both a statement and an accusation. Tolerance is not passive endurance—it is an active choice to accept, to coexist, and to build together despite difference. The poster ultimately asks the viewer to confront a painful irony: in a world where animals show us how to live together, humanity remains the species that must still learn how to be human.
